My Journey Begins: Selected for GSoC 2024 with Drupal
I’m delighted to announce that I’ve been selected as a mentee for the Google Summer of Code 2024 program! This has been a dream of mine since I started university, and I am over the moon to finally see it come true.
The Road to GSoC
From the very beginning, GSoC’s allure was undeniable. The chance to work on major open-source projects, gain real-world software development experience, and contribute to the global community was incredibly motivating. The idea of being part of something so impactful truly excited me.
Crafting My Application
The application process itself was a valuable learning experience. Months ago, I began contributing to open-source projects, focusing on bug fixes and documentation improvements. This experience not only helped me understand the open-source ecosystem better but also prepared me to write a strong GSoC proposal.
The Drupal Localization Client project particularly resonated with me because of its potential to make Drupal more accessible to a global audience. Localization is a critical aspect of software development, and contributing to this project perfectly aligns with my interests and skillset.
The news of my proposal’s acceptance came on 01 May 2024, and I couldn’t have been happier! This opportunity means a lot to me, and I’m incredibly grateful to the Drupal Association and the community members who reviewed my proposal and provided valuable feedback.

I’m also looking forward to learning from my mentor, Aastha Shrivastava. Her expertise and guidance will be crucial as I navigate this project. I’m eager to collaborate with her and make meaningful contributions to the Drupal community.
The Road Ahead
The Community Bonding Period kicks off the GSoC program. During this time, I’ll be focusing on:
- Setting up my development environment
- Familiarizing myself with the project’s codebase
- Engaging with the community and understanding their expectations
- Clarifying any doubts with my mentors and planning the initial development steps
This period is essential for laying a solid foundation for the coding phase, and I’m excited to get started.
